Brinks Home SecurityHome security can be a pretty big investment. With so many big companies and smaller dealers out there, of course, you want to be sure you’re choosing a good company. Is Monitronics one of the good ones? After all, they’ve been around for a long time, and have over a million customers across the US.

Everybody wants to feel safe at home, and lots of us also want to use the home automation technology that home security companies offer, to control our homes when we’re not there.

Home security companies know we need them – and they also know they’ve got a lot of competition out there. Some can be pretty aggressive with their marketing and sales pitches, and they might not always be forthcoming with the fine print.

Monitronics work much like ADT, in that they offer monitoring packages, but outsource the equipment installations and sales contracts to independent dealers. They rebranded the company to MONI a few years ago, and in 2018,  they acquired the rights to Brinks and officially rebranded to Brinks Home Security.

This Monitronics home security review highlights the features you’ll get with the Basic or HomeTouch package offers, the pros and cons of the provider, and the costs involved.

With Brinks you get an affordable home alarm system with professional monitoring and some of the fastest emergency response times of any home security company around.By incorporating smarter technology and z wave devices, you know you're in good hand.

Monitronics Home Security System Features

One of the eye-opening features – not in a good way – of Monitronics or MONI home security, is the 3-year contract you have to sign. Some dealers might even ask for up to 5 years of your commitment! However, they do use Five Diamond certified response centers to monitor your home for burglary, fire, carbon monoxide, and other emergencies.

Brinks home complete packageAnother thing that Monitronics does right is that you can get enough security equipment installed to frighten off a James Bond villain, let alone an average burglar. They carry a full range of good-quality equipment, which is also compatible with your existing alarm system if you’re making a changeover.  Their equipment and centers are also UL listed.

Security system products to choose from include: a touchscreen control panel, door and window sensors, moisture sensors, pet-friendly motion detectors, and glass break detectors, freeze and shock sensors, heat and smoke detectors, medical alert remote, security cameras, and thermostat.

The home automation features only come with Monitronics’ premiere package. You won’t be able to install your own equipment – they’ll organize a local dealer who will charge you accordingly.

  • They take their time updating their home automation equipment.

Monitronics Home Security Costs

Monitronics or MONI home security prices are not as affordable as some companies. Their installations start at $99 and can be as high as $199, and their monitoring packages start at $29.99 per month for landline monitoring.

Conclusion

Customers have complained about the service from Monitronics, but these kinds of bad reviews aren’t uncommon among home security firms.

They install and maintain their equipment through a number of dealers nationwide, so you can’t expect completely consistent service levels. Having said that, the company (listed as Brinks) does have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau – so it can’t be all bad.

Monitronics has been in the game for a long time and generally deserve the trust put in them.

On the downside, they want you to sign up for a lengthy contract, and will charge you high fees for cancellation. Don’t plan on moving to any other company once you’ve signed up with them!

If you don’t mind a long contract and high setup fees, you’ll get a reliable and good-quality product that will meet all your needs. Make sure you go over all the contract details with a fine-tooth comb, and don’t sign anything you don’t understand.
